As the story often goes, ours had particular humble beginnings two years ago as a cottage industry in Lake Forest, California. It was inside an unairconditioned home office that our strange little group compiled a list of core values (personal beliefs that we would run our own company by). Days later, we circled together and put all of our written beliefs together, eventually paring them down to a finished list of eleven.

These values have remained an integral part of our company philosophy. They have been written on the lobby wall since the day we moved in. They are the first thing you see when you walk inside our doors. We have believed in them, nurtured them, and built upon them. Work is always better when you have fun. At Houseables, there is no hierarchy, no uniform, no pipeline. Instead, we rely on the personal styles, tastes, and talents of our massive workforce of eight people to band together, pick up slack, and communicate openly and supportively. This hands-on approach is what helps set Houseables a part from a veritable sea of e-stores without an established identity. It’s highly unlikely that any other cheese slicer you will order online in your lifetime will be processed, packaged, and shipped by hand inside a warehouse full of laughter and some very diverse music selections.
The location has changed, as have some of the faces, but the good times remain and Houseables continues to grow. We now do our thing in a 10,000 ft office/warehouse located in Orange, where we have operated from since late summer of 2014.
Our daily sales total sometimes quintuples the size they were back when we thought we had a good little thing going. Many of the items we sold in the beginning are gone, but they have been replaced by hundreds of superior quality items. We sell hundreds of unique products. We have licensing agreements with eleven of the most innovative vendors in home goods today: Kikkerland, Tovolo, Sistema, Norpro, Joseph Joseph, Hutzler, Casabella, Wilton, Bialetti, Household Essentials, and MadeSmart.
We still process, package, and ship out every single order by hand. We still answer each call and respond to each customer inquiry individually. We have no scripts, no auto-responders, no fluff. We work harder than ever and we still manage to have more fun than ever before as well. It has become our benchmark.
But continued success is always met with greater challenges and responsibilities. We are constantly expanding our skillsets by learning and adapting new knowledge into projects and research so Houseables can remain a rising star in the home goods market. We have never forgotten where we came from or what remains written on our lobby wall.
By next summer, Houseables will be expanding yet again by moving our headquarters to an even larger space to accommodate our ever increasing freight supply. We intend to remain in the greater Orange County area because we love it here. We also have an eye towards the foreign market and hope to establish our brand in Canada, Mexico, and overseas in 2016.
